Kaldi’s Coffee Barista Mike Marquard Wins Competition

St. Louis, November 1, 2009 – St. Louis, MO barista, Mike Marquard from Kaldi’s Coffee, demonstrated his exceptional coffee preparation skills by placing 1^st overall at this year’s Midwest Regional Barista Competition, presented by the Specialty Coffee Association of America. Last year Marquard placed 2^nd at the Midwest Barista Competition held in St. Louis.  He then went on to the United States Barista Competition in Portland, OR in April 2009 and placed 6^th in the nation.

 Two other baristas at Kaldi’s Coffee were also ranked among the best in the Midwest. Joe Marrocco and Micah Svejda both made it to the finals of the Midwest Regional Barista Competition, held this past month in St. Louis. Marrocco is a roaster/barista trainer for  the company’s wholesale division and Svejda works in the original Kaldi’s Coffeehouse on Demun Ave. in Clayton, MO.
